Controlware's PRIMUS (PRImary Rate Multi Speed) is used for serial synchronous full-duplex transmission via four-wire twisted-pair lines as well as interface converter to convert data for the terminal equipment interface via the G.703 interface. To do so, PRIMUS can take over the functionality of a terminal adapter (TA) as well as of an in-house modem. When used as terminal adapter, PRIMUS is connected to a clocked line, as for example the dedicated ISDN lines Digital2MS or Digital2MU. When used as in-house modem, PRIMUS is used for the transmission of data in non-public networks with non-clocked lines. Although operation of PRIMUS is comparable to that of a modem, PRIMUS is not a dial-up modem in the conventional sense, i.e. the connection is not established via dial-up procedures but is set up permanently between two points (dedicated connection). Adjustable transmission speeds are 1.920 Mbit/s, 1.984 Mbit/s and 2.048 Mbit/s.
